kelsiarei: ISPs in DeKalb

Anybody know where I can get high-speed internet in DeKalb that isn't from comcast? I'm pretty tired of their poor service and mistakes.

-My house does not have a phone. I could correct this, if it wasn't too expensive.

-I no longer give a shit about having television, but knowing where to find it would be nice.

Verizon. Their store is on Rt. 23 in the same strip as Michaels, Old Navy & Pier 1. I'm not sure what your options are in the city, but being in the country with no cable we use an aircard (a glorified cell phone for your PC).

I wouldn't recommend Verizon.

Here's my boyfriend's experience with them:

Ordered in January. Did not actually get hooked up until February because it took them several tries to get his address correct. 100 1/2 Park Ave was 1001 S. 2nd St at one point. How? I don't know. We had to pick the modem up at UPS because, unsurprisingly, they don't deliver to addresses that don't exist! This was clearly not my boyfriend's fault; prior to this, he had given the address at LEAST three times and no one managed to get it right.

Once the account was FINALLY set up, it worked for maybe two and a half, three months. One day, it stopped working. He called them only to discover that his account had been inexplicably cancelled. In January. Apparently he'd been getting free internet for three months. There was no way to restart his account, and a new account would have required a year long contract. Which he wasn't about to get into with a year long lease that was already four months in.

Needless to say he just gave up on them and sold his soul back to Comcast.

I have DNA out of Rochelle, they are better than verizon, a little more expensive but it is worth it for tech support that is local and are willing to come make sure your connection is up the day they say it will be.

I've had Verizon DSL for almost 2 years now, and I've never had a problem. I pay like, $40.99 a month because I don't have a landline, otherwise it would have been like $30 a month. The only problem I had was the previous tenants had installed these weird filters behind the wall jack, so I couldn't connect my internet until the service guy came out and fixed it.
